The Zinus Deluxe Faux Leather Upholstered Platform Bed with Wooden Slats is one of the most affordable and best bed systems available on Amazon.com. It is so affordable that you could probably put on in every bedroom in your house for the price of just one bed from a furniture store. These beds look great, are sturdy, durable, well-built, easy to set up, and easy to break down when you move.
What’s in the box
When you order your Zinus Deluxe Faux Leather Upholstered Platform Bed with Wooden Slats, here’s what you can expect to find in the box:
- Faux leather headboard
- Faux leather footboard
- Faux leather sideboards
- Steel frame with foam-padded velcro tape for attaching the wooden slats
- Wooden support slats
- 4 legs
- Assembly hardware
All of the parts are nestled within a zippered compartment on the back of the headboard. That way, if you ever need to move, you can just disassemble the bed, re-pack it into the headboard, wrap it in a moving blanket, and you are ready to roll. Brilliant!
Of course, since the frame is steel and there is real wood inside the headboard, footboard, sideboard, and slats this bed will need two people to carry safely. The beds weigh:
- Twin: 70 lbs
- Full: 85 lbs
- Queen: 90 lbs
- King: 98 lbs
Setting up the Zinus Deluxe Faux Leather Upholstered Platform Bed with Wooden Slats could not be easier. First, have someone help you carry the headboard with all of the pieces to the room where the bed will be set up. Then, feel free to do the rest of the assembly by yourself: no assistance needed! Amazon offers expert assembly, but this is one product where that is definitely not necessary.
Lay the headboard with the leather side down. Unzip the compartment on the back and carefully remove the pieces. When removing the wooden slats, you’ll need to be extra careful not to damage the zipper or the material on the back of the headboard. Zip the compartment closed.
Next, attach the legs to the headboard and the footboard. This will make the rest of the process much easier. After the legs are attached, stand the headboard up and lean it against the wall where you will want it to be after it is all assembled.
Unfold the steel frame and use the screws to lock it in the set up position.
At this point, I prefer to loosely insert the screws into the headboard. Doing this now will make attaching everything easier later. Just screw them in far enough so that you can easily hang the frame and sideboards from the screw heads (they should be very loose). After you’ve done the headboard, you can do the same thing with the sideboards and the footboard.
To start the assembly process, hang the frame from the screws in the center of the headboard. No need to tighten any screws yet! Then, grab the sideboards and lay them next to the frame where they will ultimately be attached. It can be a bit puzzling to figure where each of the four sideboards go, so laying them out first will help.
After the sideboards are situated near where they will end up, attach the footboard to the frame. Again, just hang the frame on the loose screws, don’t tighten yet! Then, starting with the sideboard that attaches to the left side of the headboard, attach the sideboard to the headboard and frame (don’t tighten!) Then, hang the sideboard that goes next to the first one. After the left sideboards are hung, move to the right sideboards, starting with the one that attaches to the headboard.
After all of the sideboards are hung from the headboard, frame, and footboard, you can start tightening screws. Use the provided Allen wrench to tighten each screw. Be sure to hold the frame down so that the brackets are fully lowered on to each screw.
When the all of the pieces are secured together, you can attach the slats. Start with the slats closest to the headboard, and secure them into place with the velcro. Be sure to start as close to the headboard as possible and to pull the velcro tape taught so that you have a nice even spacing between your slats.
That’s it! You’re done! Now you can place your bed exactly where you want it and bring in your mattress.
